does anybody know where one can find a place where they sell ';spirit houses';, a place other than the very commercial ones, I mean. If there%26#39;s a local artist or a special place to buy one, a shop that deals with works of art or something like that

just ask when you get to your destination. there are many local manufacturers of spirit houses located everywhere. however they do tend to be quite bulky and fragile. make sure you pack it properly to avoid damage.

I assume you%26#39;ll want a wooden one rather than a stone one. As the latter are very heavy.
Beware; Thai Airways will not carry such items on their planes for religious/superstitious reasons.
I don%26#39;t know about other carriers though.
My sister took one home (Thai Airways) it was a wooden one from Otop markets and cost 400baht, think it was about 10 inches high.
Theres also a huge shop on road to BangTao beach thats sells all sized wooden ones
