How much would a large bottle of spirits be in Patong.I have heard they are cheaper than getting them Duty Free. Are most Scotches,Bourbons,Gins and Rums available? Is it worth buying at Bankok and bringing them thru to Phuket? Will they get confiscated this way?Where can you buy in Karon/Kata?How much would we expect to pay?????

Sorry to disappoint but we found the spirit prices more than at home. As KobRob said a few dollars more than home prices. Duty Free is MUCH cheaper. For example; a 1.25 litre Johnnie Walker (red Label) bottle of Scotch cost us $19 Duty Free. A 700 litre bottle of the same was $30 or thereabouts.

You can buy cheap spirits though if you buy the Thai brands...They are mega cheap. Depends on what you want. Anyway, thats what we found maybe others can tell you of some really cheap store that we didnt find???

I am still confused about the issue of taking duty free liquor into Phuket airport. Will it be confiscated if it is sealed in our hand luggage??

Coming through customs you are allowed one liter of spirits.

I find SuperCheap to be quite a bit cheaper than Duty Free.

Also, in Phuket Town, the liquor store just after the circle on Rasada near the Song Theaw area (before the Thai Air office) has quite good prices. Patong, of course, will have much higher prices.

Does that mean we can buy at Bankok airport and bring to Phuket??Or do we buy at phuket airport when we arrive??

You can buy at Phuket airport when you arrive,

I bought bottles of bacardi for 515 baht at Makro and around 520-530 at supermarkets and 7/11. (Vodka was more expensive)

Gary paid on average 250baht for Spey Royale scotch and 360baht for Benmore scotch, these were for mixing with coke so its a waste for him to buy top shelf. Cant help with your other questions as we took alcohol in our suitcases from Cambodia,

Though be careful coming home, we saw lots of people on our flight from Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide who lost their alcohol. They had bought duty free in England, Japan etc.

Jo Anne, anything in your hand luggage larger than the 100mls in the clear bad (lag%26#39;s) will be confiscated at bangkok before you board the fllght to phuket, you can get duty free on to the Melb-Bangkok leg if it is bought in the airport after examination. But as many found out in June, that is as far as you can take it, if you are going to phuket. If you have a night in Bangkok then you can pack it in your checked in luggage, before going to phuket. cheers Alex and Liz
