Would like to do some scenic drives around the surrounding area of Chiang Mai, checking out some beautiful gardens and great scenery.
Any ideas much appreciated.
Cheers,
Stewie.
Scenic Drives around Chiang MaiHi...I would jump in to any tut tut or hire a taxi for the day and explane to the driver what you would like to do...The ochid gardens the white elephant temple and even up to the hill tribe people and the zoo...and even to sankhangpan hot springs(If you go on this trip take with you your swimming gear there is a big pool and massarge place there also) We would have the tut tut from nine in the morning till around four in the afternoon and the cost would be around 600 to 800 baht and if he was reley good a 200 baht tip would not go a mis..if he took you of the beaten track like ours did...But ask for a price first....So you would have some ideal fisrt hand.....Chris
Scenic Drives around Chiang MaiP.S..The night zoo is wel l worth this trip as well..I would hire a taxi for this one and go around 6 at night that will give you plenty of time....or go in the day time and have a walk around and stay for the night time aventure....Chris
In Mae Rim there is nothing to see. It is just the name of the village just before you turn to Mae Sa Valley. I don%26#39;t know anything about the pottery in Hang Dong. Enjoy your vacation in April 2008.
There%26#39;s an excellent buffalo farm just before you enter Mae Rim. For 200 Baht an English speaking guide will give you a tour of the farm - how the rice is planted and then reaped and best of all you get to ride on the buffaloes if you so wish at the end. A really well run place and the buffaloes are well looked after, no sign of exploitation.
There are some gardens belonging to the Queen Mother off one of the roads to Mae Rim or maybe just after the town, unfortunately I can%26#39;t recall what they were called.
If you%26#39;re hiring a car the rental company will have plenty of free tourist magazines with lots of ideas for places to visit, so will your hotel.
Hi Cardiffnoddy,
Thanks for the information, much appreciated.
Was the gardens called Queen Sirrikit botanical gardens?
We will be hiring a driver with his car to take us around.
Is there an entrance fee to the buffalo farm?
Cheers,
Stewie.
anyone have contact for hiring a driver? i am travelling with my bf in next 2 weeks...
Hi Stewie
Sorry for the late reply. The total cost was 200 baht though that was a couple of years ago. The shows are only at certain times of the day as well. You%26#39;ll have to get that info once you%26#39;re in Chiang Mai I%26#39;m afraid.
As to the name of the gardens I%26#39;m unsure as there are about 3-4 around Chiang Mai.
