Cheap, reliable used car wanted :

Hi,

we have just moved to Chiang Mai and are looking for a reliable old banger of a car to get us around in, everything we%26#39;ve seen online so far is out of our price range - due to the expense of getting settled here and not, as yet, having an income - so a reasonably priced run-about would be fantastic to find.

Any input - suggestions, ideas - would be appreciated,

Welcome to Chiang Mai.

Cars are very expensive in Thailand.

The cheapest car is a Mira. it is very small and uses very little gas. It is the Japanese version of the UK Mini. I have seen some in pretty good shape for around 50,000Thai baht.

The next would be the Suzuki Caribbean. A good one will cost you around 200,000 Thai baht. These are 4 wheel drive and great if you want to go on dirt roads.

Places to look for good used cars are on Rattanakosin road between Rama IX bridge and Assadathorn road. Another is hwy 118 going toward Doi Saket just past the super highway on your left.
