Peninsula Hotel vs. Sukothai vs. Four Seasons Hotels ?

Considering the Peninsula Hotel vs. Sukothai vs. Four Seasons Hotel

in BKK for a 3 day visit after Siem Reap Cambodia.

I%26#39;m mildly handicapped, all state they are accessible (not in wheelchair, can%26#39;t do stairs) %26amp; all have separate showers from the tub...

so other than price, I%26#39;m wondering which hotel. Peninsula %26amp; Four Seasons are similarly priced.

We will not stay in the highend rooms, but the superior to deluxe.

We have NO interest in shopping or eating out, but want to do temples %26amp; other cultural things.

Which hotel is best for seeing the temples, getting around...

Need ideas on what to see for a 3 day visit.

Where can we take the free RIVER SHUTTLE (from the Peninsula) to?

Is it easy to use it %26amp; the SKY TRAIN?

I%26#39;ve spent 1.5 days in BKK, it%26#39;s a first for my husband.

Is it worth it to take a day trip to the old capitol where the River Kwai is?

Peninsula Hotel vs. Sukothai vs. Four Seasons Hotels ?

I gave you some lengthy answers on your Peninsula post.

The Four Seasons is very nice.

Both the FS and the Sukothai are in the city rather than on the river, which I don%26#39;t like. The river location is relaxiing and interesting. City location is great for shopping...but you don%26#39;t care about that.

The Peninsula boat will take you to the Oriental pier, Sky train, and River City. Other locations by boat you need to hire a longtail or take the river taxis.

The Sky Train is easy, but involves considerable walking, like any city public transport system.

Many people prefer to stay on the river. Its very relaxing and the ride across the river in the Penn%26#39;s boats is also. We have stayed at the Penn and will do so again next year as we are returning to BKK in January. May I suggest that you hire a driver to take you around to the temples. If you go on www.fodors.com and do a search in the Asia talk forum for a driver named Ratt . You will find that many of the Fodorites - I included- have used Ratt%26#39;s services (this is a woman). She is not expensive, has an air conditioned car with cold towels and cold bottled water and will take you wherever you want to go and stay with you - minimizing your need to climb stairs and do a lot of walking to and from these venues. We used her on our first trip to BKK and it really helps. You will see more, do more, last longer- guaranteed!

So I would say - stay at the Penn and elist the services of Ratt for a day or so.

Hey Fish,

sorry to be dense but what is %26#39;river city%26#39;?

other than the Oriental Pier is there anywhere that the Pen%26#39;s free shuttle takes guests to that involve other activities than shopping or eating?

Thanks Houston Bill,

I will try to find Ratt. Do you remember what you paid her?

BTW, I booked 3 nights at the Penn via a Virtuoso travel agent in CA... and he suggested we take a taxi from the BKK airport (after we fly in from Siem Reap)...

what is the opinion of other?

Is it okay to hire a taxi from the BKK airport to go to the Penn Hotel?

do they only accept Thai BHT or do they take credit cards?

thanks!

Jibralta

Rat can be contacted thru her webiste:

www.ratservice.com

She is quite popular so you will need to give here as much advance notice as you can abd specific about what service you want from her.

You can get a lot more feedback about her and her service by going on the Fodors Asia forum and doing a search on Rat,

The Penn boats only go to fe few stops but you would be able to catch other river taxis at say the Oriental pier or maybe the Skytrain stop.

I%26#39;d prefer Peninsula as the traffic isn%26#39;t bad. You can go to the temples by river taxi.

Sukhothai and Four Seasons are good for real shoppers. It%26#39;s easy to get around the shopping area.

If you want a driver. Do a search on Ratt and Chai, there are some reports on fodors.

If you want a licensed guide with car or by public transportation, you can do a search on Tong and her team here and on fodors. Tong also has drivers in her team other than the licensed guides.

If you want a local assistant. You might consider Nok. She is willing to help you anything...getting around ..or shopping.

Other than bangkok tour. You can consider Ayutthaya, there are many options...go by coach , back by boat..or by car..by boat is relaxing but you can see many more by car.

You can get a metered taxi from the airport to the Peninsula. Search the forum about where to find the taxi rank and approximate costs. They only take Thai BHT. I%26#39;ll be staying at the Peninsula in March and will be taking a metered taxi from the airport.
