Need an idea where this is.....

I will now be staying a few days with some people who live in Bangkok.

Anyone out there have an idea where this would be??

%26gt;%26gt;1km from the Onut Sky train station. It%26#39;s near Sukhumvit 77.%26lt;%26lt;

I know its not much, but can anyone tell me if its in a good location, easy to get to transport etc???

Thanks very much

Lorree

The fact that you are 1km from On nut BTS station means that almost the entire city is at your finger tips.

Sky train links at certain stops to the Subway system, and both allow you to travel in complete comfort without having to deal with Bangkok traffic.

May I suggest you use (or install) google-earth, and type into the ';Fly to'; search engine;

1. On nut bts

and then,

2. Sukhumvit 77 Bangkok

Then you will see for yourself your approximate location.

Hi there,

Oh thanks for that!!!

I%26#39;m so relieved that I%26#39;m in the mix of it!!

I%26#39;ve got google earth downloading right now, I%26#39;ll have a look once its finished :)

Thanks for the tips :)

I wouldn%26#39;t say you%26#39;re ';in the mix of things'; but you are near the BTS so you can get somewhere relatively easy.

It depends on what you call a %26#39;good location%26#39;, it isnt where most tourists would normally stay but then that may be a good thing depending on your taste. Personally it would be too far out for me, while you are 1 km from the skytrain, it is the end of the line.

This is the cheaper end of Sukhumvit because it is a little way out. When they extend the Skytrain system in a year or two the property prices in this area will go up a bit.

If you don%26#39;t mind being at the Eastern end of town it%26#39;s fine. You%26#39;ll be using the BTS every day though, and Soi 77 is a long road.

Don%26#39;t believe a Thai when they say 1Km - it usually means two minimum.

If you were planning to spend a lot of time near the Grand Palace for instance, then you don%26#39;t want to stay here.

Hello :

I am not sure how much is cheap in the low end of this Sukhumvit

area? I traveled through the thonglor quite a few times in May, 2007.

and saw a lot of new Condo being built with the price range from

anywhere 1.5million baht and up 10 million and more...

Amazing how the locals folks in Bangkok can afford all these

inflated price properties . The foreignerscan not purchase and

own the property So why is selling high cost house ?

You obviously don%26#39;t know Thailand.

There are plenty of well off Thais with money. You just don%26#39;t see them often.

You mention Thonglor which is the most fashionable area of Sukhumvit; plenty of money to be spent in this area, and plenty of people queueing up to buy.

The Sois around Thonglor are also full of wealthy Japanese residents.

Thonglor to Soi 31 are the most expensive areas of Sukhumvit.

Heading from there down to soi zero is expensive, but less so. Mainly because the accomodation is a mixture of old and new, with a lot of transient residents.

Heading further up toward Soi 77, it is more residential, but more %26#39;ordinary%26#39;.

If you think Bangkok is a poor city go down to Siam Square and watch all the young glamorous kids buying designer labels (REAL designer labels). Mummy and Daddy didn%26#39;t sell their cow and two acres of land to look after their little darlings - they%26#39;re making REAL monay somewhere.

As a previous poster mentioned it depends which part of soi 77 you will be on. as mentioned the current last station is On Nut. at the moment they are extending the BTS past On nut but that won%26#39;t be finished until 2009 at the earliest. while construction is going on they have closed one lane of traffic in either direction beginning at On Nut. the result is that traffic around this area is horrendous and journey times by bus and/or taxi have increased. so if you are within say 2 km i would walk to On Nut. however if you are far down soi77 which can stretch for nearly 5 km then you may wish to consider your options.

just a couple of pointers.

foreigners can purchase condominiums in BKK. they can%26#39;t purchase houses and/or apartments.

the reason they are expensive is the land is very expensive and the cost of materials are expensive too. with materials it%26#39;s the law of supply and demand. demandis high, supply is low, therefore property developers will pay more to make sure they get what they want.

Thanks everyone for all the info you%26#39;ve given me.

I have no idea exactly where the accommodation is, all I know is that its about 1 km from the O nut bts station.

Wish I knew more... but for free accommodation I don%26#39;t think I can pass it up.

For at least the 1st 2 or 3 nights, I%26#39;ll then move in closer. Am think of then moving to the Siam II, just so I can get a different feel for Bangkok. I%26#39;ve only got 5 days so really wanted to experience as much as I can.

Thanks again everyone, really appreciate it :)
