horizon 2 dinner cruise or loy nava

Hi, would need the advice of travellers who have been abroad the dinner cruises. Am able to book dinner cruise for the horizon 2 leaving shangrila for $2200B nett for two. Understand that Loy Nava charges $1295, so price is about the same. Understand that both also offers traditional Thai cuisine and the duration of cruise is about 2 hrs long.

Would appreciate it if fellow travellers could enlighten me on the following:

1. Which cruise has dedicated sitting - ie just two per table - or do we have to share tables with others.

2. Which cruise offers the option of dining outdoors and observes a smoke free policy. Should wet weather prevail, is there the option of dining in air-condition comfort indoor.

3. Does the Horizon 2 offer buffett or is it a la carte like the Loy Nava.

4. Which offers more romantic ambience (its subjective ) of course.

5. I know that Loy Nava offers pick up service from hotels, but what about Horizon2?

Thanks for sharing.

Can%26#39;t comment on the Horizon but have just had the 6pm dinner cruise on the Loy Nava. They picked us up from the hotel in a mini bus and took us to the pier. Seating was arranged in advance of us boarding so the size of the table matched the party size. Couples were sitting together. Everybody has a fron or side view. The boat was less than half occipied for our cruise. The boat is a converted rice boat and has open sides with a thatched roof. If it rains and blows then they have plastic covers to pull down the sides but that would take away any sightseeing you were hoping for. The cruise took 1 1/2 hours which means that it was all a bit rushed. The food was OK. We had both the traditional and seafood. Plenty for everyone. They have two traditional Thai dancers performing now and then, both looking totaly bored and fed up. The boat and washroom facilities were very clean and comfartable.

horizon 2 dinner cruise or loy nava

Hi,

just returned from a trip from Bangkok and would like to share my experience about the horizon 2 dinner cruise.

1. Was using a Golden Circle special, the cost was therefore 2200B nett for two.

2.Unsure about hotel pick up%26#39;s as I was staying at the Peninsula which is just opposite the Shang.

3. Was seated at the upper deck (indoor).

4. The cruise took just over two hours to complete.

5. Quality of the food was good.

6. The folks waiting on us (who also manned the bar) gave a good commentary on the more important sites we pass.

7. It was overall a good dining experience except for two incidents which I feel is more individual preference than anything.

a. Because it was a buffet, everyone tended to rush for the food at 730 sharp. This made the dining experience rather uncomfortable as the guest were literally rubbing shoulders trying to get to the food. The fact that the width of the ship was not broad did not help either. I was also worried initially if there was to be a refill if the food ran out, fortunately, most of the major food items with the exception of the chocolates were refilled. When I eat buffets, I usually like to take bite sizes of what i want and slowly enjoy the meal, however, we felt ';pressured'; to eat fast due to the fear (unnecessary or otherwise) of having insufficient food.

b. As our dinner cruise was on a Sunday evening, there was a high percentage of families with children. Was looking forward to a romantic cruise, however, the ambience was simply not there with baby/toddler kicking up a ruckus every few minutes. I also felt for the other guest dining alfresco since their privacy was constantly interrupted by guest stepping out on deck to take a photo or just enjoy the evening breeze of the chao praya.

I do hope that this sharing will help travelers make a more informed choice regarding their dinner cruise.

Our decision to go for the Loy Nava was because it was not a buffet for exactly the reasons that the previous post has mentioned. I think a buffet meal takes away the atmosphere of it being something special.
