Krabi or Koh Samui

We are thinking of going to either Krabi or Koh Samui in March next year. Mainly we will be chilling out by the pool but like to get out of the hotel (either the Sherton in Krabi or the Bo Phut in Koh Samui) in the evening to go to bars and restaurants. Is there much to do in the evening in Krabi or does Koh Samui have a bit more nightlife?

Thanks

Gwen

Krabi or Koh Samui

February is getting hot..March is HOT. (And i come from Australia)

Same old story...Samui was lovely 10 years ago and (they tell me) paradise 20 years ago.

Now its ok but I wouldn%26#39;t go back..

too many better places in Thailand and beyond. For me Samui is finished. I met a German there 8 years ago and he said ';Samui is finished';

It can be what you make it and what you like is important. There are bars and bars and shops and shops and music venues and its busy busy in Chaweng.

Lamai is quieter.

Boput is quiet.

Boput doesnt have a beach worth laying on.

Hope that helps...(too negative ,, mikey

Krabi or Koh Samui

Couldn%26#39;t agree more with the last post . If you click on my name, read a thread from 2 May entitled ';what%26#39;s great about Samui';. Interesting reading. Even the locals say ';the island is a mess';. I%26#39;d recommend Krabi. Stunning scenery, great beaches, great hotel%26#39;s. Ao Nang is great for local restaurant%26#39;s and shopping. There%26#39;s lots of fabulous islands to explore, we particularly like the Hong Islands. I can%26#39;t imagine anyone going to Krabi and not falling in love with the place. I%26#39;d reconsider the Sheraton though! Your profile says ';nothing but the best';, so I%26#39;d have a look at the Tubkaak. I%26#39;ve done a review of my first visit there last year, returned in March this year and still as good, it thoroughly deserves it%26#39;s number one position.

Hey there.. i can%26#39;t comment on Samui because i have never been there. I was in krabi this year in early April and stayed at Krabi Sands down the road from the Sheraton, which is about a 20min scooter ride from Ao nang.. which isn%26#39;t a bad thing because it is quieter there and you see more (non-touristy)things cruising around on a scooter on the way to Ao nang. Near the hotels there on the beach you can ask locals who will take you to the many islands for about 1500 for a full day.. islands were great Hong, Bamboo, PhiPhi Ley, very beautiful etc.. only thing that sucked about being there was that i was traveling alone :) Samui i believe would have a bigger nightlife but Ao Nang wasn%26#39;t too bad.. how many bars/clubs do you need to go to have a good time? personally i only need one.

We went to Koh Samui 2 years ago and loved it!! We are in our fifties and travel extensively. I always thought Ko Samui would be too busy but we stayed at the Amari Palm reef Resort in the northern part of Chaweng. A fabulous resort with 2 pools and the best buffet breakfast in the world. Some how they thought we were on our honeymoon!!!!!!!!!! Actually been maried for 33 years then! and we had a bouquet of flowers i n our beautiful room with welcome basket of fruit, a petal strewn bed with heartys in petals on the pillows and a chocolate cake with happy honey moon on it!!!! At night restaurants open on the beach with candle lit tables and you can choose your seafood which they cook for you how you like it. There are lots of restaurants, some bars and clubs and we would get a songthew (can%26#39;t spell it) into Chaweng for 20 bht. It is quite busy at night but has great atmosphere . We hires a jeep and went around the Island there is plenty to see Bo phut is nice a small fishing village but we preferred Chaweng to any including Lamai. We have sent several friend to Koh Samui and they have not been disappointed just go anywhere with an open mind. Haven%26#39;t been to Krabi but have met people who preferred Ko Samui. When we went we actually stayed for 14 nights but only had to pay for 7!! There was a promotion on. Next door is a baby elephant and we went there most days to play for a while. What ever yoiu decide ENJOY!!
