Khao Lak for young kids in september

Travelling to Khao Lak early september and staying Ramada - ocean front villa with 2 young children. Will the ocean be very rough and is it likely to be impossible to enjoy the surroundings etc. We have a week in patong before this and are thinking maybe we should cancel KL and stay somewhere else in Phuket.

Thanks

Frederick.

When the weather is rough the sea is rough and that roughness tends to precede storms and linger a while after they pass.

That said, I don%26#39;t think the weather will interfere with your enjoyment of your trip. But, September is the rainiest month of the year. See:

I live on Phuket and tend to think that the sea is more mellow in Khao Lak.

Not to minimize the issue with the sea - but it needs to be put in perspective. When people speak about heavy seas here they are relating it to the winter months when the sea here is quite placid.

I%26#39;ve seen very few days here even during big storms when the sea would equal a normal day on much of the California Pacific coast, the northwest coast of Oahu or even the beaches at Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

There are a few places on Phuket specifically that have fairly dangerous currents and undertows - that are a real problem if you are swimming when the sea is rough. People do drown on Phuket - I don%26#39;t want to minimize that - but when about 4 million people came here in the last 12 months, I don%26#39;t think the numbers are large. Add boozey people on vacation into the mix and . . . Don%26#39;t get me wrong - one drowning is too many, but these things do need to be put in their relative places.

Generally, in Khao Lak - if you take a good look at the water, you can tell if it is safe or not -assuming your good judgment, of course. Being from Australia - I am guessing you have seen FAR worse surf conditions that what is common here.

I hope that helps.
