marina resort asked for my credit card info..

This is fairly standard procedure where hotels don%26#39;t actually charge at time of booking but require a Credit Card to guarantee the booking. As an alternative you could phone the hotel and give the info verbally.

Hi,

We faxed our details to The Marina for our holiday in May.

We had no problems at all.

Beautiful Hotel and yes their deals are very good.

Lindy.

Hi,

I am not a fan of giving my credit card details to people I don%26#39;t know. Yes, I understand there are times when you have no choice. I am very selective on these occasions.

It is up to you but there are many posts about credit card fraud in Thailand. Yes, I know many people will give you many positive examples but I chose NOT to take a chance. Once you have been bitten, you tend to learn a few things.

I book and pay for my accommodation via a travel agent at home. I take the vouchers with me and they are useless to anyone else but me. If a security deposit is required, I give them cash. I use my debit and credit cards in ATM%26#39;s.

Regards

Niko

We too stayed at Marina Phuket and faxed our details to them to pay the deposit. We contacted them through their web site and received confirmation they had received the details. They sent an email that they%26#39;d received the above and booking confirmed. We did not have any problems and our booking was honoured as arranged.

There%26#39;s definitely a risk involved, but just like the others I faxed my information to the resort to book my stay at Marina Phuket. I booked about five months ago for a trip coming up in a couple of months, and to this point there hasn%26#39;t been anything out of the ordinary. In this case I decided it was worth the risk involved since it saved me about $700 over the lowest price I%26#39;d seen elsewhere for the same room.

I forwarded my credit details to the Marina Resort without problem (to date) I rang my credit card provider and told them what I had done and that single transaction was the only time my card was authorised for use in Thailand.

thanxs everyone..but they have asked for my

credit card%26#39;s 3 digit security number........is that necessary?

can%26#39;t i just give thim card holder%26#39;s name, exp date and the cc number? if i choose to just send over the info?

The form that they sent me to return to them for the deposit and confirmation had a required field for the security number also. I just assumed that it was like so many online retailers that require the security number to be entered for payment to be processed using a credit card. It would definitely be easier if the resort would set up an encrypted payment method through their website to limit this type of concern. I sent that feedback along with my deposit but I%26#39;m not expecting to see a change anytime soon.

Hi jeica8,

It%26#39;s not just the Marina, I have booked several hotels direct in Thailand, 4 on this occasion and they have all asked for credit card details to secure the booking.

It is standard practise.
