Hi,
I went in today to pick up the Malarone the nurse suggested I get, and it was over $200...
Is it really necessary? I%26#39;m planning on using mosquito repellent with deet, is that sufficient? I%26#39;m not planning on going all the way up north, at most a elephant ride or bamboo within an hour or so of Chiang Mai (small chance of Pai)...
Is there anything else I can get there for cheaper that%26#39;s reliable? I am bringing a good deet repellent...
Thanks a lot...
Do I need Malarone?! need answer ASAP....
I usually search before I post, this time I searched after, and I think I got my answer... seems like it%26#39;s not necessary. If anyone thinks otherwise please advise... Thanks

As to the above post (YOU DO NOT NEED MALARIA TABLETTS)..Just a good Repalent with plenty of deet 30%...There is a good one that you can buy from any chemist in C/M and its called Jungo and cost 165baht....You need repalent on any ware in C/M they can get there as well as any ware else in or around C/M...bitten i mean....Chris
Just to echo the previous posters comments that malaria tablets are not needed for Chiang Mai. They%26#39;re only needed if you%26#39;re spending prolonged time along the jungle border areas.
A little side note is that malaria tablets can be bought from UK chemist based chain Boots in Chiang Mai for 2 baht per tablet (this was 5 years ago mind) but obviously you need to take the tablets 3-4 weeks before you go into malaria infested areas.
