Elephants in Cha Am

Just need some advice re elephant sanctuaries/rehab centres in or near Cha Am.I have ridden elephants in India and Sri Lanka but my husband never has.The elephant place in Sri Lanka really really put me off as elephants were chained so they had to stay in the river etc etc, they all looked quite distressed and thats what I was by the time we left, actually left in tears. Are there any places near Cha Am where you can ride elephants that are well looked after and happy (do humans riding elephants and happy elephants go together??????) Help and advice appreciated. Regards Seagull6.

Elephants in Cha Am

Always a hot debate whether happy elephants and humans riding them go hand in hand.... I am sure that the odd ride isnt harmful or unhappy but when they work long hours 7 days a week with fat western tourists on them all day its probably a different matter.

A fantastic place to support the Thailand elephants is the Elephant Nature Park. A place for rescued elephants. No rides available but a great day feeding them, and washing them in the river. We thoroughly enjoyed our day there.

As you are asking about Cha Am -

There are 2 places, the Elephant village in the hills overlooking Hua hin ( Cha Am connects into Hua hin ) and the other one south of Hua hin town, you will find the elephant ride tours etc at your Cha Am hotel or reort, there is also south of Hua hin about 100km ( so about 110/120 km from Cha Am ) the Kui Buri reserve where elephants are protected in the wild, you can%26#39;t ride them but you can ride through the jungle to %26#39;observe them%26#39;, but for an elephant ride the places in Hua hin are the nearest.
