weather in august

My husband and I will be traveling to Thailand for a few weeks in August. We would like to spend some time on the beach (5 days or so) in fairly quiet areas. We are considering ko samui, khao lak and phi phi. Is it particularly rainy in one place more than the other? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Usually Koh Samui is better (ie les rain) in August than Phim Phi or Khao Lak but consequently it is a very popular month and prices and visitor numbers tend to be higher.

Thank you for your input. We have seen that the prices on Ko Samui is very high. We definitely do not want to run into busy beach areas. Will Khao lak or phi phi be completely washed out? Or is there generally dry periods. I know the climate is never the exact same year to year but how is it currently on Khao lak?

';on Khao Lak'; .... forgive me if I have misinterpreted your post but it implies KL is an island, when, in fact it is on the mainland about an hour or so drive North from Phuket. It is a long ribbon development bordered by the ocean and the mountains/hills and within the National Park. I honestly can%26#39;t say how wet it will be there as we have never been at that time but historically charts would indicate that it is one of wettest periods but that will be largely due to the volume of rain that is put down over a period but with sunshine in between. If you PM JohnnySF he is a compatriot of yours living in KL and I%26#39;m sure he will advise you better than me.

Meantime have a look at this link for weather info.
