we arrive in bkk late afternoon and leave the hotel for the airport at 2pm the next day. we are going to cram the grand palace and reclining buddha into the morning before we leave. are we better doing this on our own or as part of an organised tour? the tours finish at 1pm and we have a pick up at the hotel arranged for 2pm. would the tour be more likely to get us back late?

you can easily do thid by yourself if you wish. tickets for entry to the grand palace are 250B.
as for possible lateness back to your hotel, that all depends on the traffic.

if you are and you set off early youll do it easily using the express boats (yellow flags) and not have the traffic to worry about. if you cant do it by boat it may turn into a nightmare.

Definitely do it on your own - it is so cheap. Make sure you are dressed appropriately though.
