Family Friendly Guest House Recommendation?

My wife, 2 year old son and I will be in Chiang Mae for a week at the end of May. I am getting increasingly confused about where to stay.

We need to be central, but want something Thai, not a standard hotel.

Any ideas?

The hotel is nice but the management team is really unpleasant if you refuse their trekking offers (which are MUCH MORE expensive than any agency in town - 1000 baths more). I have never seen such a bad service in Thailand... Up to you!

We stayed at the Thapae Garden Guesthouse just off Taepae Road. Unfortunately we could never remember the soi number (either 3 or 5) It was 500 baht per night in July and had AC, pool and you could buy breakfast there or walk down the street. It is basic but clean and they would do laundry for 40 baht a kilo. Its not far from the Thapae Gate.

We also loved the food and ambience at Grace House but I don%26#39;t know what the accomodation is like.

Don%26#39;t worry. There are oodles of places. You could take a room for one night and decide if you want to stay longer.

At the end of the soi where you turn off Taepae Road onto the soi for Thapae Garden Guesthouse there was also a hotel advertising rooms for 590 baht. They didn%26#39;t have a pool so we didn%26#39;t look at the rooms but the lobby was very grand.
