Info for staying in Phuket for 1st timers to the far east

Hi we are a married couple in our early sixties we are thinking of going to phuket in January and would like some advice on prices of meals etc we are thinking of going to the dusit languna resort, could you tell me if this is a good resort and also if it has a good beach to take a stroll along, swim and snorkel in the sea. Are the activities free or do you have to pay on the resort (if so what sort of prices are they). Could you also let me know what other things are in the area in the way of shops and restaurants and give me some idea of the prices, and of drinks (we are used to being all inclusive) this doesn%26#39;t seem to be the norm in thailand. We would also like to take some trips, what would you suggest also price wise. Hope I havn%26#39;t asked too many questions!

Hi-

My partner and I just returned from Dusit. I wrote a review on it and it should be posted in the next day or two. I think there are about 4 different restaurants at the resort: Royal Thai, Italian and two others that offer a mix of Thai, American etc. We ate at the Thai restaurant the first night and of course it was expensive by thai standards: dinner was about 1,300 baht for dinner, drinks and desert for two. For cheaper (and good meals) check out the nearby restaurants. Most offer free shuttle service and the concierge will make reservations for you. We tried Lotus (right on the beach) and Chaaba (food was OK) - the same dinner generally worked out to about 700 to 800 baht. There are also restaurants within walking distance on the beach but we didn%26#39;t try them.

There are a mix of activities, some are free, others are not. The most expensive was the cooking class which I think was over 1,000 baht. I took a bike tour for 300 baht but there was also golf lessons, kayaking etc - they varied by the day of the week.

There is really not that much around the laguna area. We spent 4 days in BKK, so this was the relaxation portion of our trip, so besides going into Phuket town on one day, we did not do much else. I hear that there is more activity in Patong.

Drinks are definitely not inclusive of your hotel rate.

I will leave the remaining questions for others but be sure to look out for my review on Dusit when it comes out.

Hi Jospud,

You should not pay any more that about 300 Baht for two people including a couple of drinks each if you eat at one of the many Restaurants in the Patong Beach area. If you eat at the hotels expect to pay expensive hotel prices for meals and drinks. One place we had a few meals in (Sweet Restaurant) our bill was always under 400 Baht for 2 adults and 2 teenagers including drinks.

I know the resort is quite a way from Patong beach but i am sure there would be similar places close by.

As for activities try Cathy %26amp; Gary%26#39;s web site it gives you a great in site as to what to do while there.
