New years gala dinner charge

I%26#39;ve noticed that some online hotel booking sites (ie. phuket.com) indicate there is a compulsory new years eve gala dinner and they include the gala dinner fee up front when you book . Whereas some other sites (ie. agoda.com, hotelclub.net) do not mention this gala dinner at all and there is no gala dinner charge when you book.

My question is if I book through a website which doesn%26#39;t mention the gala dinner, does that mean I don%26#39;t have to pay the compulsory gala dinner charge? Or does it mean that if a hotel has a compulsory gala dinner, then it is always compulsory regardless of where you make the booking.

Any comments/advice will be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Raymond

New years gala dinner charge

Dear Raymond,

from my experience in the last years:

Even if there is no information about a Gala Dinner at at the time of booking it麓s always compulsory.

Be prepared to pay something between Thb 1000.- to Thb 3000.- depending on your hotelcategorie.

Usually Gala Dinner comes as buffet and the entertainment (band and games) is almost unbearable.

I was annoyed in the beginning, but as the charge for the Gala Dinner in Thailand is still much lower than at any place at home, I do not really care anymore.

Now I just have dinner at the hotel and go out to a nice beach bar to celebrate.

Have fun !

New years gala dinner charge

Hello Raymond,

Yes it can be compulsory. The hotels are fully booked that time as not only tourist from abroad come to Thailand, but also the Thai celebrate New Year that time too (although they have another day aswell). So the hotels use this period to have some extra income. The same as in Melbourne, with the Melbourne Cup, where hotelprices are tripled and that is for only for the room. Here you get a buffet, live band etc and what the other member said it is still cheaper than in other countries (eg. in Holland) where you have to pay minimum of 5000 Baht for the Gala dinner. So I would be prepared to have this extra money paid. If not your lucky.
